Free! Free! I’m not immune to the lure of a free app, and Capsized+ is free (I don’t know for how long). Oddly enough, I had been waiting for this game to come to the App Store, and then forgot about it. Until today, of course.

Capsized+ is the port of a Steam game, and from the looks of the computer version vs. the game I have played, it is a very good port. Hand-drawn graphics in a retro setting make for a very interesting and visually appealing platformer.

A space traveller, stranded in an alien planet after your ship crashes: you have to fight your way back to space, while collecting your crew and fighting endless alien beneath an impressive world.

The game has several modes, too. A non-linear campaign where you do all these exploratory-scaping things and 3 arcade modes (a classical endless survival, a “running out of oxygen,” aptly named Last Gasp and a weapon-free mode, Armless.) All very appealing, don’t you think?

Of course, there are some caveats. One would be the game is hard. To give you an idea, the first few levels only let you choose two difficulty levels: Medium and Hard. In these first levels you’ll learn the controls, which add to the complexity. Although they are brilliantly executed for a mobile device, they are tricky. Double tap to grapple, use a swing grapple to move from place to place, switch weapons and weapon modes. It all feels pretty daunting, moreover, you can’t move the button position, which for a dual-stick game like Capsized+ is a MUST.

Should you buy this game? Hell, yes, it’s free and awesome. But be prepared for a hard game that will give you tons of hours of gameplay (and a possible sink of money with a range of IAP for weapons, armor and the likes.)

In short: Get it, check it and then you will know how Capsized+ feels.
