Let’s start with the good:  this game has amazing graphics.  The character design is spectacular.  And the game is free (although in-app upgrades cost extra).  The bad:  game play is simplistic and repetitive.

Basically, this game is Mortal Kombat with DC Comics superheroes.  In fact, the company behind this game, Netherrealm, also developed the Batman: Arkham City Lockdown game which plays in a similar fashion.

It’s fairly easy to beat your opponent in the first few levels then it gets progressively more difficult.  However, the game is simple to learn using swipes and taps to dodge and punch (and there is equipment to make fights more equal.  Batman couldn’t possibly fight Superman without Kryptonite gloves).  The game is well thought-out in terms of storyline and consistency.  I can see pre-teens being particularly interested in this game if they’re into the superhero genre.

My biggest complaint about the game is that it doesn’t make it clear why the superheroes are fighting.  It begins with a cryptic statement from Superman’s nemesis Lex Luthor but doesn’t really go into details.  Having some sort of motivation other than beating the tar out of a superhero would help in terms of game psychology.

While I personally would be more entertained watching someone else play this game, I can see the appeal.  Keeping in mind that this iOS game is intended to be a stepping-off point to the XBox or PS3 version of this game, it is still worthy of one’s time investment just to watch the superpeople fight.

Quick Take

Value:High.

Would I Buy Again:For free? Yeah.

Learning Curve:Low.

Who Is It For:Kids or simplistic gamers who like great graphics and design.

What I Like:Incredible graphics, game-play and design.

What I Don't Like:Simplstic plot and game execution.

Final Statement:Injustice is a great-looking game for those that don't mind repetition.
