Fans of the Magic: The Gathering series will be pleased to note that a mobile installment of the game has reached the iPad. Magic 2013 brings the popular card game to the virtual platform and I must say that it definitely delivers.

To start off, Magic: The Gathering is a very popular card game in which players duel each other in exciting rounds whereby cards with epic abilities are thrown out to match each other. While indeed very confusing at the start, the game proves to be very addictive as players grasp the hang of it.

In Magic 2013, players start off with standardized decks that do not have very good cards. As the game progresses, however, better cards are unlocked and players can customize their decks accordingly. While it did take me a while to understand the game play, I was totally hooked and personally I find this one of the best games downloaded onto my iPad.

Players can face off against computer controlled players or against real players online. For beginners however, I would suggest sticking to playing against the A.I for the time being.

A free app, Magic 2013 is something card game fans would enjoy. The only downside would be the humungous file size of 1GB required to download the app. I await the day the game is brought to iPhones and iPod Touches. Though how the developers would squeeze such a large scale game onto a small screen remains to be seen.

Quick Take

Value:High.

Would I Buy Again:Yes.

Learning Curve:Steep. It takes quite a while to get a good grasp of the game.

Who Is It For:Card game fans.

What I Like:Being able to play an interesting card game on the go.

What I Don't Like:Game is rather difficult to learn.

Final Statement:A card game of epic proportions.
